Avaya's Pending Acquisition of Nortel Beneficial for VoIP Call Recording SMBsWith Avaya’s pending acquisition of Nortel, what lies ahead for SIP Print (News - Alert), a SIP-based VoIP call recording provider that was recently selected to join Avaya’s DevConnect Program?
Jonathan Fuld, chief technical officer at SIP Print, said that the company will continue to move forward with the program. SIP Print, bringing advanced call recording capabilities within reach of SMBs, has already certified certain Avaya (News - Alert) PBX products when using the SIP Protocol. "When Avaya consummates the purchase, SIP Print Labs will already have the relationship with Nortel’s product line SCS (News - Alert) and its cousin SIP Foundry’s SipX,” Fuld said. “Then we will go through the process again to dual certify Nortel’s products, Avaya’s products and SIP Print’s products.” With Avaya’s complete line of TDM and master PBX’s (News - Alert), Avaya requires vendors to participate in the DevConnect program in order to certify the vendors’ products. And, since SIP Print customers can already use Nortel’s systems, the rumored merger will bring additional benefits to the company’s customers. No matter the system – Avaya, Nortel or open source SIP Foundry – SIP Print’s products will work well with the SIP-based systems without any need for CTI (News - Alert) or API, Fuld said. “In fact, while a customer transitions from Nortel to Avaya or vice versa, or uses a mix of systems, there is no need to replace, upgrade or modify the SIP Print products because they work with both,” Fuld said. In order to stay proactive, SIP Print Labs tested snom phones, Grandstream phones, Nortel phones, Aastra phones and Polycom phones on the Nortel SCS. The result: complete usability, so the acquisition places SIP Print in an advantage in that its products work with all tested SIP standard phones and PBX’s. “The DevConnect program delivers more marketing and more sales to SIP Print,” Fuld said. “At the same time, it gives the sales people of Avaya and Nortel an advantage in deals for the small, medium and enterprise prospects.”
With no special boxes, no protocols and no extraneous overhead to complicate a sale for an Avaya or Nortel team member, SIP Print’s involvement is a plus for all parties involved. “The nice thing about the Nortel acquisition is that Nortel has a line of telephone systems for the small medium and enterprise industry verticals and so does Avaya,” Fuld said. And, since the SIP Print Appliance works in all scenarios, the purchase of Nortel compliments Avaya’s product line and opens up further prospects for SIP Print.
