Cutting on Firms' Fixed Costs by Moving to VoIP CommunicationIn any business firm, cutting down on operational costs is crucial in ensuring that the firm name remains afloat. To achieve this, companies need to drop some unnecessary expenses and look for cheaper alternatives for irreplaceable operations. One irreplaceable activity is communication through any means, from teleconferencing to audio calls. Using Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) to cut operation costs in a business is an option. However, the changes brought into an organization after the introduction of VoIP vary from less than satisfactory to very satisfactory. Complains arise from the quality of the calls, complaints on delays, interference from non-voice traffic among many others. Therefore, before shifting into VoIP, it is important that you weigh some factors to strike some balances and compromises. Top on the priority list is the company’s Internet connection and bandwidth. Broadband connections with the right Quality of Service (above 90 percent) is crucial in achieving quality and consisted voice conversations. Another important aspect of the Internet connection is speed. In order to digitize, encode or transmit data packets successfully over the Internet, the network has to attain specific upload and download speeds. For instance, TeleBand service puts the speed at a minimum of 120Kbps with the value for descent experience being at 256Kbps and top quality coming with speeds of 400Kbps plus. However, the investment of a good Internet connection that adequately meets all the above specifications is useless when used with low quality VoIP hardware. It is wise that you have as much information as possible about any piece of software you intend to purchase before doing the actual transaction. Expensive is normally the best, though not always. Apart from these mentioned, basic factors affecting the satisfaction you will derive from a move to VoIP services, there exist a whole lot of other nooks and crannies to explore before doing the move. These range from collaborating with the right VoIP provider to investing in the right bandwidth to cater for your needs without wasting any leftovers. This is of course easy to achieve if you solicit for the service of a qualified team to do the whole project for your company.Edited by Rachel Ramsey
