VoIP Call Recording on a Different Kind of Test RunThe use of VoIP call recording is familiar in the all-IP call center environment, yet its application can extend far beyond the business world. The military has found a use for VoIP communications on handheld devices and hovering aircraft that extends the boundaries of our seemingly limited imaginations. According to this Lockheed Martin (News - Alert) release, a military contractor recently demonstrated its software-defined radios, capable of branching out the Army’s tactical network with both the airborne and fixed station joint tactical radio system (AMF JTRS). Giving a leg-up to VoIP call recording, Lockheed Martin’s software defined radio is able to establish a reliable infrastructure for the transmission of voice, video, and data as well as images through handheld devices on the ground and devices mounted to aircraft hovering above. Tactical network for the armed services is making a leap ahead with this technology, which when commercialized, should be an improvement to VoIP call recording capabilities as well. During Lockheed’s demonstration recently in San Diego, the AMF JTRS Small Airborne radio was mounted in an Apache helicopter, which gave the soldiers on board the ability to communicate with soldiers on the ground, while also enabling a network between the two. The ground soldiers relied on handheld radios capable of accessing the network and sharing voice and data information. The technology allowed the Apache crew to disrupt the network, but reestablish it quickly. Most importantly, the Internet-like connection allowed the soldiers an avenue of communication that was not only reliable, but also secure. Joint tactical radios equipped with Soldier Radio Waveform (SRW) were in use by both the aircrew and the ground crew. These Internet-Protocol enabled devices extended communication capabilities for all soldiers. The AMF JTRS technology is able to turn every handheld radio or radio installed in aircraft the ability to act as a router and a VoIP call recording device, which enhances the communications between forces and extends the network farther. The technology is developed for Army, Navy and Air Force platforms, including the C-130.With this technology, troops are improving their ability to collaborate regardless of location, while also increasing the survivability of warfare by gaining superior communications, by voice, and through data, text messaging, and imagery including live video. Lockheed officials claim that their technology is improving the movement toward a more affordable, mobile, and secure network. Consumers using VoIP call recording should also feel such improvements as commercial development ensues and brings new innovations to market. The Army began migrating its communications to VoIP call recording-type technology in 2008. The move in this direction was brought on by the perk of having both voice and data traffic on a single converged network. Soldiers serving overseas have also engaged VoIP call recording and mobile VoIP technology, allowing them to communicate with family and friends stateside at a much lower cost by skipping the traditional landline and transatlantic long-distance billing.
